Big Verizon Shipping Hub in the Works in North Fort Worth
Telecom giant Verizon is eyeing a new shipping hub in North Fort Worth. The big distribution facility would be in the Mercantile Center business park near interstate 35W and Loop 820. Verizon and its logistics partner XPO Logistics Supply Chain Inc. are working on a more than 600,000-square-foot warehouse on North Sylvania Avenue, according to planning documents filed with the state.
The office and industrial building would be a project of commercial property firm Mercantile Partners and is valued at $28.5 million, according to the state filings.
Dallas’ GSR Andrade Architects is designing the project, which would open later this year. XPO already has three facilities in the area — two on Mercantile Drive and another on Sylvania Avenue. And XPO has other locations across Fort Worth, in North Richland Hills and Flower Mound, according to tax records. XPO is a global shipping, warehousing and logistics company that’s based in Connecticut. The company has 100,000 employees working in 1,629 locations worldwide.
Verizon is a major customer for XPO, which distributes its cellphones and other products.
