Apartments with Cafe and Retail Planned for South Irving
The Irving City Council recently approved a development agreement and incentive package to pave the way for nearly 200 new apartments in south Irving, but hurdles remain before they can become reality.
At a Feb. 26 meeting, council members voted unanimously to approve the sale of 4.4 acres to Lafferty Development and an economic incentive package of $598,000.
The development would occur in two phases on two neighboring pieces of property. Property A, at 200 N. Main St., was once the site of a lumber yard. Property B is a parking lot that encompasses 211, 213 and 221 E. Irving Blvd.
The end result would be a four-story building of 194 apartments, each under 900 square feet, divided by a six-story parking garage; a cafe; and a three-story live/work/play loft with retail units on the first floor.
Under the deal the Planning and Community Development Department negotiated, Lafferty would purchase the two pieces separately for a combined $1.3 million, but the earliest the sale of Property A may close is Sept. 30, 2021...
