Irving Approves New 236-unit Apartment Complex
A new apartment complex is one step closer to reality in Valley Ranch.
The Irving City Council approved a rezoning request Feb. 13 that paves the way for a two-building, 236-unit multifamily project at 9905 W. Valley Ranch Parkway. The council passed the project on a 6-3 vote, with Mayor Rick Stopfer and council members Allan Meagher and Kyle Taylor voting against it. According to the proposal by Criterion Development Partners, the development will also include 295 parking spaces and be completed in a single phase.
A chained-off parking lot dominates the 5.2 acres set aside for the development, which is northwest of the West Valley Ranch Parkway and MacArthur Boulevard intersection.
The proposal says the new four-story buildings will feature a “contemporary urban” design catering to professionals. Of the 236 apartments, about 200 are expected to be one-bedroom units and the rest two-bedroom units. According to the council meeting’s agenda, the city received 26 letters of support from businesses near the planned development, including a San Diego Tacos restaurant, 7-Eleven and Walgreens. No letters in opposition were received, the document says.
