D-FW Area Still Tops For U.S. Homebuilding
A drop in home starts isn’t enough to knock Dallas-Fort Worth out of the top spot for nationwide building. D-FW again led the country in single-family home starts during the third quarter.
Builders started 33,572 houses on an annualized basis, according to data from housing analyst Metrostudy. “We’re still number one, but we are seeing a flattening of starts across most markets, and some are down,” Metrostudy’s Paige Shipp said. “We are staying in lock-step with Houston.” Houston ranked second with 29,435 homes. Both D-FW and Houston have headed the list of the country’s busiest building markets for the last couple of years.
Austin and San Antonio also made the top 10 building markets in the third quarter. Home starts were down from a year ago in six of the largest U.S. markets. The biggest declines from a year ago were in California markets...
