Airport Project Part of Development On the Way in Addison

A four-building aviation complex and new building along the DART line are in the works. 

A new development on the way at Addison Airport will add to the town’s expected growth. Just this week, the Texas Department of Transportation announced that it will spend almost $1.4 million for improvements at Addison Airport. It’s part of a $60 million program for planning, constructing and maintaining community airports statewide.

And Galaxy Aviation, a Houston-based aviation base operator, plans to break ground soon on a four-building complex at Addison Airport. The project will include a 20,000-square-foot terminal, two 40,000-square-foot hangars and a 30,000-square-foot hangar. The new complex will be in the southeast quadrant of the airport on Addison Road, according to a recent presentation from Addison’s economic development department.

“We are very excited about that project,” said Orlando Campos, Addison’s director of economic development and tourism. 

Construction on the airport project is scheduled to begin early next year. “This will be our first fixed-base operation in Dallas area and the third in Texas with the Conroe North Houston Regional Airport and the Houston Hobby Airport — under construction,” Galaxy Aviation’s director of business development and marketing Haydar Kustu said in an email. Addison Airport is home to 70 businesses. Construction is underway on a new 7,200-square-foot U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility and Airport Administrative Offices that will open at the end of 2020. The airport upgrades are coming at a time when Addison is anticipating a surge in new development thanks to construction of DART’s new Silver Line connecting DFW International Airport with Plano. Addison is seeking a master developer to oversee the new use of town-owned properties along the rail line between Addison Road and the Dallas North Tollway.

“The area that piqued everyone’s interest is our plans for the area surrounding the DART Silver Line stop in Addison at Addison Circle,” Campos said.
