Hurst joins ban-Wagon Seeking to Block Airbnb-Style Rentals
Hurst has become the latest North Texas community looking to ban Airbnb-style short-term rentals.
The city council Tuesday gave initial approval to a ban that could take effect next year. The matter will get another airing in December and, if approved, the ban would go into effect six months after that.
Nearby, Grapevine is in court after attempting to enact a similar ban.
Hurst's proposed ban stemmed in part from complaints about noise and trash at a short-term-rental home in a residential area, said Kara McKinney, the city's public information officer.
The city's planning and community development department "received calls about one home four to five times," McKinney said. "This home in particular has a pool and seems to be a popular rental in the summer. They have received calls on other rentals maybe a few times."...
